Sahih al-Bukhari: The
Early Years of Islam The historical chapters of the Sahih of Imam al-Bukhari are here rendered into flowing English, in addition to the traditions depict the beginning of the Prophet's revelation, the merits of his Companions and the early years of Islam up to and including the decisive turning point of Islamic history, the Battle of Badr. Muhammad Asad had set out to translate the whole of Sahih al-Bukhari but the majority of his manuscripts were destroyed in the chaos that followed the Second World War. It was not in vain, however, for in his own words he said, ten years spent on analysing, translating and clarifying the Sahih were a God-willed preparation... This translation was first published by Arafat Publications in 1938. |

An Introduction to
the Conservation of Hadith, in the Light of the Sahifah of Hammam ibn
Munabbih Orientalist works have continuously challenged the authenticity of the sayings of the Prophet, claiming that the collections of hadith were done orally and therefore subject to misreporting and alterations. Dr. Hamidullah discovered very early collections of hadith preserved in libraries in Turkey, France and Germany, and on the basis of these, refuted the misgivings spread by orientalists. This work, first published in 1953, selects from the collections of Hammam ibn Munabbih, a disciple of a companion of the Prophet, to substantiate its arguments. |

The Earliest
Codification of the Hadith Al-Qazwini sought to bring together about a dozen small tracts of ahadith which had been compiled by the Companions of the Prophet, in order to illustrate what was understood by the Hadith in his time. A single manuscript of Kitab al-Sard Wa al-Fard, transcribed and completed on 7th of Safar 599 AD survives in the Sulemanye Library, Istanbul. This has been translated and edited by Dr. M. Hamidullah. This volume includes the Arabic text and is part of the series Great Books of Islamic Civilization. |
