The historical chapters of the Sahih of Imam al-Bukhari are here rendered into flowing English, in addition to the traditions depict the beginning of the Prophet's revelation, the merits of his Companions and the early years of Islam up to and including the decisive turning point of Islamic history, the Battle of Badr. Muhammad Asad had set out to translate the whole of Sahih al-Bukhari but the majority of his manuscripts were destroyed in the chaos that followed the Second World War. It was not in vain, however, for in his own words he said, “ten years spent on analysing, translating and clarifying the Sahih were a God-willed preparation...” This translation was first published by Arafat Publications in 1938.
